The Correlation among Students’ Reading Motivation, Anxiety, and Comprehension during the Covid 19 Pandemic

Abstract


Nowadays, we are facing the Covid-19 Pandemic which certainly has a significant impact on human life, one of them is education. E-Learning is the solution for education during covid-19 pandemic. When teaching and learning activities have to be shifted from home, reading comprehension is necessary for the students. Improving reading comprehension is crucial for success in every academic domain, particularly in courses focused on reading and literature. They must improve their reading comprehension, because reading develops the mind and discover us to new things. Reading motivation and reading anxiety are the factors that influenced students to increase their reading comprehension. This research was aimed to (1) find out the correlation between the students’ reading motivation and students’ reading comprehension. (2) find out the correlation between students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading comprehension. (3) find out the correlation of students’ reading motivation, students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading comprehension. This research was used quantitative method with a correlational design. The subject of this research is 21 students of IAIN Palangka Raya. The instrument that was used are two questionnaires and one test. The finding was showed that there was no significant relationship between students’ reading motivation and students’ reading anxiety (.112>.05), there was significant correlation between students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading comprehension (.019<.05), among students’ reading motivation, students’ reading anxiety (F= 5.790, p= .011) gave significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension.
